Join me, Alexandra Lakind, on TV for my wedding on June 30th, 2018 at the Gates of Heaven Synagogue in James Madison Park in Madison, Wisconsin. This summer, I will be turning 30. In honor of this, I will have a wedding! In thinking about this ceremony, I will try to incorporate many of the traditional aspects of “wedding.” I have seen many movies, TV shows, catalogs and blogs, and been privileged enough to be included on a few special ceremony days of friends and families. At this wedding, there will be many things you are familiar with, even though there will be no marriage. We will meet in a temple and I will perform my femininity. You will join me in commitment, bearing witness to my vows. Elizabeth Freeman, professor and author of The Wedding Complex (Duke University Press) will give a keynote sermon. I will hire a photographer to ensure I have glossy photos which I can frame and display, a metric of my success, proof of my adulthood. I will ask for a nicer blender to mark this milestone.
