    Add to Cart

    Claire Jervert

Add to Cart uses the icon of a shopping cart as it appears on the “add to cart” button seen on retail sites throughout the Internet. This icon has become a universal symbol of “the purchase.” Here, the icon takes on a panoply of stock effects used in electronic billboard advertising–bright, shifting colors; pulsating lights; jittery, hyperkinetic animation effects. The forms of advertising appear, but entirely emptied of content.

Strange phenomena ignite. Terror magnitude has arrived; its mission: fate and unimaginable circumstances.

This project is an extrapolation of the alien noise generator that signaled down to Earth. Keeping with the theory of the movie, random noise condenses down upon itself and disrupts all communications. A circuit-bent LaserDisc player generated images from select scenes of the film, which were further processed with analog feedback loops.

    Triptych AKA Miami Booty Bass

    Alfredo Salazar-Caro

Triptych AKA Miami Booty Bass is a study of portraiture translated with 21st century tools. Using Sagrada Familia con ángel músico, Santa Catalina de Alejandría, Santa Bárbara, (1510–1520) from the anonymous painter, simply known as Master of Frankfurt, Miami Booty Bass re-examines the composition and affect of the masterpiece. Using 3D modeling softwares and motion capture and images of churches and drones, Miami Booty Bass adds a new footnote to a millennium old conversation.

Between a masonic pigpen and DCT
    Dear DCT
You may call me an archaic old quiff
But I still believe that nothing has more aura than the invisible
So here I am, nostalgic for the secrecy and non-seeing
With my biggest fear my expiration date: when they would understand my alliances,
and my cycle over groom waters
    becomes encyclopaedic
You, my dear DCT are not nice to me
Why do you mock my quest for radical freedom?
    Dear Masonic Pigpen
it is a hard question: how not to be visible.
Does it mean not to reflect
or not to emit a signal?
It seems to you it just means that
    She cannot own the signs.
No cypher, encryption or any form of secrecy is permanent
As the once radical enigma fell through a dumb ìhelloî
We are all bound to become informed materials
    Products of semiotic de/territorialization
    Progressively enriched by information.
    I celebrate obfuscation
Inside a liminal space build on RLE and err
The conditions becoming readable to the OCR are flippant
    [[But]]
You do not need to be a decommissioned Ourobouros
Because every time a new way of seeing is constructed,
A new prehistory will be generated —
And then we are in freespace again

    Hippie Atom Test

    Paul Hertz

“Hippie Atom Test is an animation that plays on themes of broken cultural memory presented in my Glitch Nation series of still images. Taking its images from government and news media archives, history textbooks, and vacation snapshots, Glitch Nation uses glitch as a metaphor for the processes by which we record, forget, mythologize, discard, recast, contradict and reconstruct our collective experiences in order to make some kind of sense of the world. Most of the images are involved with my own experiences coming of age in the United States. I was a grade school student during the 50s, drilled in hiding in the school basement in case of nuclear attack. Hippie Atom Test is an attempt to come to terms with the terrors that were taught to me as safety procedures—utterly absurd and horrific in their implications, and almost certainly useless—by otherwise reasonable people.” -PS

What actually matters? Knocking down the playground.
Why? We’re going to build anew. Why? Its exciting.
But what about this? Couldn’t this be better too?

For Commercial Break, a dozen contemporary commercials are frankenstein’d to make new propagandistic narratives for sixty-second public broadcast.

“Eulogy For The Dyke Bar (LIVE!)” Macon Reed

    by Macon Reed

Exterior of The Dyke Bar, Macon Reed

Wayfarers is proud to present the culminating project of our 2015 Summer Artist in Residence:

    maconreed.com

Macon Reed‘s Eulogy For The Dyke Bar revisits the legacy and physical spaces of dyke and lesbian bars, an increasingly rare component of the gay and queer cultural landscape. Reed’s installation, made of cardboard and simple materials that unapologetically reveal her hand in their making, offers a full bar, pool table, neon signs and hand-painted ’70s-era wood paneling.

Eulogy For The Dyke Bar seeks to acknowledge the mass closing of dyke bars across the country and ask a host of questions, such as: Why are these spaces closing? What socio-economic, cultural, and technological factors contribute to this phenomenon? Are the same factors impacting spaces for gay men? What role have physical spaces such as dyke bars played for lesbian-identified people in the past and how has that changed over time? How do we learn from these spaces and move forward in creating new spaces that are safe and affirming of our various communities while embracing expansive notions of gender and sexuality across generations?

On September 25th, the bar comes to life: Dyke bartenders serve drinks as Eulogy For The Dyke Bar in collaboration with New York-based Queer Memoir offers a night of story-telling and performance from across spectrums of age, gender, race, and sexuality. Reflecting nuanced experiences in and around dyke bars, performances both celebratory and lovingly critical acknowledge these spaces that may soon exist only in our shared stories.

    ABOUT QUEER MEMOIR
Queer Memoir is New York’s first and longest running LGBT storytelling series; giving voice to our collective queer experience and preserving and documenting our complex queer history. Every month, we host some of Queer New York’s best known performers, and folks who have never been on a stage in their lives and bring them together to celebrate the ritual and community building value of storytelling.

“Hot Beach Babe Aims to Please is a seamless loop of bikini-cad Mayer walking in and out of the ocean. As soon as she enters the camera’s frame, a swarm of computer cursor arrows follow and stalk her as she moves. The pattern that the cursors assume in this video is based off eye-tracking research websites.” -JM
