Allon Allou is a web based series made up of episodes that utilize the structure of children’s educational television programs such as Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba. Allon and allou mean other and another respectively in Greek. This project includes DIY assemblage, wearable and performative sculptures, and stop motion animation. The themes of the episodes are mothers and fathers, friends, hospitals, homes, schools. Allon Allou allude to possibilities of dysfunction and trauma through the imaginary depiction of broken systems that lie behind smilingly healthy places and people. In the video series the inner parts of the buildings, people and characters are exposed as way to depict how the past environments have constructed their current selves. Erwin W. Straus, M.D Ph.D. explains the experiences of the other in the Phenomenology of Hallucinations, with the use of the term allon. Straus wrote “ Sickness estranges from our body; then the body is turned into an object, a thing no longer to be trusted. Stricken by dis-ease, we discover the power of the allon in ourselves.”

Conceptually informed by the artist’s active filmgoing, AS WITHOUT SO WITHIN takes as its point of departure prop sculptures which are transformed both through hybrid techniques of framing, lighting, and superimposition and by being projected in an enclosed, silent architectural space. AS WITHOUT explores the possibility that the surfaces of things are entities worthy of their own depth for and in themselves, demanding to be seen and confronted as they exist.

I’LL STAY AWAKE uses rediscovered audio and film from the creators’ childhoods and college years to construct a fictionalized horror narrative. As night falls, tape recorder games and scary stories at a slumber party give way to a Ouija session, connections with the beyond, voices and visions, and a strange journey down to the basement.

1-800-GET-LOST consists of four experimental video remixes (1-800-FICTION, Bleach FormulaHeikki Laaksonen’s Silent Syllables and Pink Trilogy). The project addresses the moment when the countless struggle to establish a sense of connectedness eventually conjure up an endless nightmare that overwhelms the physicality of life.

By reediting and overlaying language, pop-culture phenomenon, smartphone clips, and found footages from the Internet, the convolution of layered moments will demonstrate the itineraries to the nature of chaos, or the views of induced panic.

Two photographs of a beach house in ruins are displayed on separate LCD screens and sliced. The two screens are in dialogue: each displaying the house’s interior taken a few years apart, at different levels of decay. Akin to the firefighters who used the house in the 1970s to conduct drills and simulations, cutting and removing the screen’s polarizing filter film pushes the limits of its material condition. Between charred wood and the sunset. Between infinitesimal liquid crystals and the expansive space of the Internet.

I went to the woods today,
    Cause I couldn’t dream anywhere
I went to the woods today
    Cause I couldn’t dream anywhere
I went to the woods today
    But I couldn’t sleep anyway
Why? I couldn’t take away the time

It seems our consciousness is fascinated by our own hands.
It makes sense, for aren’t they a symbol of our agency? That endlessly fragile agency,
the sense of which is mostly constructed, almost dreamt up. Yet we’re searching for it relentlessly.
Hurtling through space like that, is restlessness any wonder?

    And so we dream…
We dream meaning into the vortex.
We escape to the woods. Our woods.
We code representations of our imagined bodies into cyberspaces and spend our time
    watching them.
    Mesmerised.
There’s something out there… Listen carefully. A lullaby. A nursery rhyme. A mantra.
    Meaning as self-soothing.

Dreaming while wondering how come we’re running out of places to dream, to even just sleep.
Out of space. Out of time.
So let yourself drift away to the sound of the hum of the spheres.
    This too shall pass.
